Fox Mill Estates Abandoned?
Why is it that at Fox Mill Estates we have been abandoned by the system?
After struggling with the snow and the icy streets in my neighborhood, I
could get to other areas like Reston and Vienna, where I was uncomfortably
surprised when I saw the big job the snow ploughs did there, in comparison
with the terrible job they did here. Neighbors here had to pay for private
ploughing to be able to leave their homes to go to work. Others , who were
not so fortunate in getting those busy guys , must suffer from the complete
indiference of the VDOT authorities. Hey people! We pay our very hefty taxes
here too! Are you planning to show you care?

I find it amusing that the tv keeps telling me how all of Fairfax County has
been plowed. I live on the corner of Soapstone and Blue Smoke Trail.
Saturday night we saw many plows going up and down Soapstone (about every
hour). They of course did not go down Blue Smoke Trail (they never do). We
have not seen the plows again since the snow got deep. We had more than the
reported two feet in our yard.
Some of the neighbors on Blue Smoke Trail are starting to park their cars on
Soapstone hoping to be able to get out one day. However I wonder if this
will cause even more of a problem should those plows ever find their way down
to this area.
A Reston Neighbor
I live in Fox Mill Estates on a street (Huntington Drive) that ends in a
dreaded cul-de-sac (sic). Our street never saw a plow until Saturday
afternoon - 7 days after the 1st snow flakes fell. While listening to the
snow plows plowing the almost dry Fox Mill Road behind our house, we tried
phoning the constantly busy VDOT Hotline to no avail. I did manage to reach
Channel 4 Friday morning at 5:45 AM to tell them that VDOT had NOT managed
to make one pass through all streets. Their response was that they felt that
VDOT was being a little too optimistic in their assessment. Finally, after
an ambulance found our snowy neighborhood while responding to a Saturday
morning sleding accident, a plow showed up. Interestingly, he wound up stuck
for about an hour.
I never was able to get into work all week however I did manage to escape
Thursday late for a run to the Giant. Of course the 2nd wave of the storm
cut off my route later that night. Luckily I was able to do some work at
home - I LIVE 3 MILES FROM MY OFFICE IN RESTON AND WAS RECEIVING HELP FROM
SOMEONE AT WORK WHO LIVES IN MARYLAND - although most neighbors were not
that fortunate.
Everyone I talked to outside our Fox Mill neighborhood said that they
received their "one pass" plowing at least by Thursday. Were we abandoned?

"Concerned Citizen With The Right To Vote" should consider two things: (1)
VDOT isn't concerned and VDOT isn't running for office. The same clowns who
don't build enough roads, don't fix the ones we have, and don't time the
traffic signals ..... surprise, don't plow snow. (2) Next time it snows, hire Morris Kaplowitz. From his article I infer he loves the stuff!
