Martin Luther King, Jr., Day Celebration Returns to Reston


Pay tribute to the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with a community-wide celebration that echoes his lifelong commitment to peace at the Reston Community Center. On January 15 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., residents of all ages will come together for the annual Martin Luther King Jr., Day Celebration that champions the theme "Mentoring: The Foundation of a Model Community". Sponsored by the Reston Community Center, Martin Luther King, Jr. Christian Church, Unitarian Universalist Church of Reston and the Bahai' Faith, this year's event is presented in tribute to the life and advocacy of late Restonian Delores Wilkins.

The enlightened festivities will commence with a Commemorative March at 11 a.m. that begins at the Southgate Community Room (2050 Pinecrest Road), proceeds down Glade Drive and ends at the Community Center (2310 Colts Neck Road). Following the March, participants will ejoy the inspirational words of special guest speakers; entertainment including modern dance with Terlene D. Terry Todd, line dancing with Pinky O'Neill and a performance by the South Lakes High School BHS Step Team; youth programs for ages 5-10; and child care for ages 4 and under. To highlight the festivities, a wellness workshop, The Role of Joy, Freedom and Play on Health and Well-Being, will be presented by facilitator Myrtle Gallow
